Having just rode home after work, only to be told a little way away from home that my tire was down when I stopped at a toll booth, then getting home, trying to test it and having a reading of 0 psi I realised I have a puncture

What are my options, as you can see by the picture, the puncture is in centre of tyre, did a quick search and came up with this;

Worth a punt? Or better to stump up est. £65 for a new tyre, would like to replace like for like, but cant find any prices for them at the minute, the tyre has currently done 4.5k miles. I'm probably going to have to use that motrax stuff anyway just so I can get the bike out to get it repaired.

Cheers

Id use the Motul or big brand pressurised seal and inflate cans. Ive used the Motul on my old CBR600 rear and worked well enough to get home safely and get bike to a garage.
Other option is, if theres enough tread could get a plug put in, may save a few quid, but 65 for a tyre is prety cheap tbh, prob better get a new one in the long run.

I had a puncture and used one of those repair kits where you plug the hole. It was fairly good but it wasn't a permanent repair. It's OK, but only if you enjoy pumping your tyre up after every journey!

You're probably going to need a new tyre. I'd rather ride whilst safe in the knowledge that my tyre was sound.

Don't use that tyre gunk, it's more trouble than its worth. Looks like a small clean hole and probably an easy repair to me.

Have you not got a centre/paddock stand? I'd just whip the wheel off and take it down the fitters see what they reckon, probably only cost you a tenner or so to sort it.

Just get a decent repair done if you can whip the wheel off as above it should be a few quid, I've had about a dozen punctures on my rear on the Funduro, it's tubed so easy to fix but I still have the holes in the tyre.

They will try and sell you a tyre and balancing though so be strong

IIRC you can get about 3 professional mushroom plugs in a tyre without it becoming dangerous. My Bros used to pick up loads. After that it's new tyre time.

A lot of people have recommended ultraseal to me, which is a green goo that goes in your tyre when you have it fitted. When a puncture happens it gets pushed out, reacts with the air and seals your tyre. You can pull the nail/screw etc out of the tyre and it still does a good job of plugging the hole.

Take it to a tyre centre and have them fit a professional tyre plug (not one of these emergency tyre plugs you can buy). Never had a problem with a repaired tyre if has been done properly.

Thing is it's coming out quickly so I need to spray stuff into it before I ride it, I've got some Holts stuff, would that be ok to use?

a mate used some tyre weld. a shop had just closed when my mate turned up after having a blow out at about 140mph (god knows how he stayed on but luckily he had just come out of the corner and was straightening the bike up which saved him!) and he put it in by undoing the valve squirting it in then blowing it up.

he might have told my friend those immortal words: "the faster you go, the quicker it will heal."

cue my mate doing 160 on the motorway 10 mins later. ;)

That goo stuff is not easy to get off the rim.. Not that I really know, cos i'd never use that crap on my bike..

Get the wheel off and take it to a pro, or have one of those mobile bike repair guys come to you.. A professional plug is fine.

I disagree, I've used it for years and it is great.
It will also likely seal that hole nicely. Yes it's a bit messy when it gets to tyre change time, but fitters don't really care and are used to dealing with it.
