Punkbuster problems with BF 2142

So I picked up BF 2142 the yesterday and to my lack of amusement, have discovered that I'm simply incapable of playing online.

I can usually log on for a minute or so but am subsequently kicked the anti-cheat program punkbuster. Having read up about this I've discovered that this is quite a common problem for many users.

I've downloaded the new patch (1.25 I think). I've downloaded the latest uninstall/installation program from Evenbalance so I should be upto date in that restpect.

Also, prior booting the game I've opened up my services and selected both Punkbuster A + B to 'started'. All in all, still no luck in getting this game to run online.

Any idea's?

What's the kick messge? If any?

Sorry, forgot to mention.

Vista 32-bit. Kick message is blank, apart from the the punkbuster heading.

Make sure u get the latest PB installed.

You need to run it as admin, right click the bf shortcut, properties, compatibility tab, tick "run as admin"

Cool, just played on it for 40+ mins no problem running in admin mode.

For some reason it just randomly quit, displaying an error. Fluke perhaps?

Anyway, at least I've got rid of the punkbuster problem. All I've got to do know is try and get good. Skills learnt from CSS are completely non-transferable.

remember to run PBSetup.exe periodically to keep your Punk Buster client updated

If you continue to have problems, get someone with the same OS who isn't having problems to copy their PB folder and email it you. Replace all your files with theirs and that should fix most problems.

Get the latest punkbuster service installer (pbsvc.exe) from their website, and install/reinstall the service using that. Then run the test feature using the same application. Also use punkbuster setup (pbsetup.exe) to update the game's punkbuster files. If the above is all successful, and you still get kicked, then check windows event viewer - something might be deciding to block it loading, such as windows defender or an anti-virus program. Could also try running the game as administrator, however that shouldn't be necessary anymore (the punkbuster service was introduced to avoid the need for admin privileges).
