Well Puppy Linux 5.0 was released recently, and despite my earlier experiences with it which were less than favorable i decided to give it a second chance. And since it's based on Ubuntu 10.04 (hence the name, Lu(cid)Pu(ppy)) i'm glad i did. It's strayed a lot from it's early days but has somehow improved a lot. It's hard to explain but it just seems to work, and while i somewhat prefer Slitaz for some uses this still has it's place (i'm posting from it now). I'm not sure if JWM still really has a place nowadays, it works but i don't know what it offers over Openbox really.
But no, it's going well so far. Good download speed (the torrent isn't immediately obvious so i just did it though HTML given that it's only 125MB or therabouts, took roughly an hour) and really fast boot. Some of their bundled software choices are a bit strange and there's definitely room for improvement but overall i'm very impressed. It all just works, no nonsense and nothing you don't need.
Anybody know what happened to their 'nice' looking site? I remember there being three, and one being really well developed, but that one got hacked and replaced with some... inappropriate material. I'd have thought they'd still have the code or have got it back now though...
