I'm in a quandary with what to do.
I have an old GPU (GTX770) in my machine at the moment, it's old and pretty naff especially when paired with the Ryzen 9 3900x!
My plan was to wait until the new cards were released and see what that offers and struggle along with the GTX770. My main display is a 27GL850 with an additional display for non gaming purposes (29UWK500)
As is typical, my son has thrown a spanner in the works and completed a set of work that now means he can have his own PC for his birthday (August) damn those promises and elephantine memory! I was planning on building him a B450 (hand me down) based Ryzen 3300x machine to do school work and play Fortnite etc on and possibly some VR. The monitor he'd use is only 1080p capable.
My dilemma now is that I will need a graphics card earlier for his machine but I don't know which way to play it that is most sensible, both from a longevity standpoint and money.
I see three options but don't know which route to take.
Do I look at either a 2060/70 Super for my machine and be done with it and he can use the 770.
Get him a card that will run fortnite type games fine for a bit and wait for the new releases for my machine.
Get a stopgap card for me that will last for him and swap it once the new cards have been released
If I look at the bottom two options, what do I look at?
