I'm wondering if this is just me...

When it comes to food and eating out I spend a lot of money and I don't give it a second thought. I enjoy good food and price doesn't really come in to it.

However when it comes to other things I struggle to pull the trigger on purchasing e.g. I've been wanting to buy a Fire Stick and waiting for it to go down to £20. It's currently £25 and I can't bring myself to buy it as I'm waiting for it to go to £20. I will happily spend £25 on lunch but I can't seem to bring myself to spend that on something that I will use for year(s).

Is anyone else as irrational as me? What's your spending vice that you will happily spend whatever on?

I'm the same mate. Hold off on that £10 -£20 purchase of a game or something for weeks/months... but if the chef(wife) is away for one night then ill pull the trigger on a dominos for 15odd with no hesitation!

I'm the polar opposite, i wont shirk from spending money on something i'll use.

Perfect example is me pc, as much as i'd love to upgrade it, for what i use it for its not yet defecient enough nor gets enough use to bother dropping £1k on.

But perfectly happy to spend near that on modernising my car audio because i drive every single day and i listen to music from my phone every single time i'm driving.

But i wont spend more than £30 on food from any restaraunt and its rare i spend more than £5. And if i'm spending £30 on food i generally expect decent portions, none of this steaks that look like a bacon medallion drizzled in something that resembles old engine oil served on a 20" plate, or a rectangular plate

With the obvious exception of those who struggle daily to make ends meet tbh i'm of the mindset that if you want something enough within reason you'll probably find a way to get it.

I used to be like OP but don't bother anymore if its under £10 not worth the effort and time trying to find said bargain.

If you calculate the time, postage or petrol for travelling for said bargain then you will see its pretty futile in the end.

As for dining out? That's just spoiling yourself and you should know the cost and enjoyment beforehand. ;)

Im the exact same as op, will wait ages for a game or something small to come down in price but will go out and spend a fortune on food or drink or a night away without a second thought.

Probably because going out and enjoying yourself gives you instant gratification, so cost is a second thought. ;)

Surely having the game and being able to play it is as much an instant gratification?

In a situation like this i'd say that wether he's concious of it or not that he enjoys weekends away much more than he enjoys pc gaming.

Funny when i got my car the stick i got from co workers for being a young (ish, getting there) fella buying a beamer when most of them were in the 3-4 year old vectra/focus/golf crowd, until i pointed out i wasnt dropping £2-3k for a holiday to spain or one of those generic sunny resorts every 6 months.

As much as i enjoy holidays, i would go on a proper one (ie multiple days abroad) maybe once every 2-3 years, because i just dont prioritise it enough to budget for it.

I'll spend money on PC hardware and go for the top spec, or as near as possible to the top spec. Although saying that, I still usually buy 2nd hand and save money where possible. Not bought a brand new 'all parts new' PC since my mid 20s.

For everything else, strict justifications apply. Which really just include, leaving the idea for a week and coming back to it then. If I still need it, I'll go ahead and buy it. And I would calculate that 99% of the time I completely forget about it. Same should apply for most guys in the GPU section. On a new release they whip each other into a frenzy and it's almost always more a psychological need than a physical need for a new card.

But for dining out and things like that, it depends, we don't do it often anymore out of choice. And because we do it so infrequent, going out and spending a bit of money on a meal or show - we don't really think about it.

So in short, yes, I try and justify pretty much everything.

I'm awful at deciding on new toys for myself, probably because I don't have much disposable income and want to make sure bits I buy will be used. Yet a new PC game comes out that interests me, or mate wants to do a pub lunch, I usually spend without much thought!

Opposite to OP
I hate eating out. Spending over 10-15 quid for a meal pains me because i just imagine what i could do with that in ingredients myself. I like to cook.

I spent 100 quid on my lunch break today on more black Friday toot because i was bored.. lol

I am a nightmare, id hate to take me to a restaurant.

I've been saving a long time for something but now I have the money for it, I can't make myself buy it. I'm talking about £15K. The bank account is even in the name of the thing its intended for. I call it Scrooge McDuck syndrome.

I just can't do it!

I'll splurge loads on gigs and dining out though!

I'm the same in that for online purchases I will invest a lot of time in bargain hunting. For example I tend to stay in hotels a fair amount (more than once a month on average) and I'll use comparison sites heavily and then hunt down discount codes to shave a few extra quid off. Then for other purchases I rarely get the best of breed, I'll look for something not quite as good that is significantly cheaper (despite the fact that I can afford the best).

In some cases my bargain hunting isn't really effective relative to the time spent, i.e. the ratio of cost saving to time spent would be below minimum wage.

On the flipside I'll pay over the odds for 'experiences' such as in restaurants, pubs, days out with family etc (although that's not to say I don't still hunt down vouchers where possible).

I also gamble a lot so I'll spend more time looking for a £2 saving on a purchase than I will putting on a bet for hundreds of pounds.

The only time I really hunt for bargains is with flights, however I always shop the amazons looking at uk ,fr and de for the same product then looking locally online in Belgium.

Prices vary wildly online for tech as much as 50% in some cases.

For Clothes I don't look that much as most of my shopping is done in store.

The firestick has never been sold for less than £25 according to Camel.
