Purchased a HDMI over cat5e Matrix

I've already got an octo LNB so that's no problem but I wanted all my recordings on one device, what happens if I've taped something on the Living Room PVR but wanted to watch it in the bedroom?
Also I have 3 places I would like the option to watch from.

buy a panasonic freesat recorder and do it wirless  it will cost a little more for the initial out lay tho :(

£1500 ouch, but to be honest if it's worth doing it's worth doing right, I've tried the wireless route on so many occasions and spent £££ but it's always rubbish (1080p).

I haven't purchased it yet, but yes, for the outlay it will pay for itself in time.

The good ones have CAT5/6 out of the matrix, so it's one less balun too (like the one in the OP) :)

Although expensive, its pretty bargainous considering it came with the baluns for the other ends aswell. They seem a great solution but I'm wary with anything HDMI splittery etc. related because all the EDID/Handshake etc. problems that could occur.

Distributing HDMI is notoriously difficult because of EDID problems. If you are willing to put up with the occasional glitch then it's fine using matrices.

Some things to consider..

  1. TVs should be the same resolution across all outputs as the signal will downscale to the lowest common denominator.
  2. Audio sources at each TV. Sending 5.1 to the lounge is great, but try sending that to a 2 channel TV in the kitchen and you'll lose out on audio. It's worse going the other way.

If you have a universal remote, and patience then most problems can be over come by settings or quick switching audio modes etc, but occasionally you may need to reset the matrix because of handshaking. I've not found a single device or method that doesn't have niggles, and I've been researching methods for nearly 2 years.

Chipperhead can you post how you're getting on.

Overall mine works fantastic and I'm really pleased with it however there are a few issues:

1. Remote distance is about 3-3.5m which is a problem in one room so I am relocating my Humax PVR and matrix to this room, the remote will then work the PVR direct rather than through one of the matrix receiver units.

2. When I power off the PVR the Matrix seems to forget about it all together so when I try and power the PVR back on it won't see it. I have to power on the PVR manually, I have managed to power it on a few times by pressing the button on the matrix remote then pressing the power on the other remote. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

3. About 3 times in the 3 moths I've had it, it doesn't display a signal on the TV so I've had to turn the matrix on and off to reset things.

The matrix itself has proved to be excellent and I can't recommend the setup enough.

Hi,
I have recently bought the same HDMI Matrix over cat5e but i am having a problem at the receivers.
When trying to use my remotes at the receiver end the range is very small, probably can only use it about 1-1.5M away from the receiver.
Did your receivers pick up the IR signal ok, and also what range can you get?
Is there anyway to extend the range?

Thanks

I hope your reading this as I have sussed the problem with the short range, it's a real easy fix and it now works 25 foot plus no problems.
I'm not sure you still view the forum though and you only have one post.

Let me know if your still active and I'll post the answer :)

Hi,
Not been on the forum for a long time.

Still struggling with the range can you tell me how to sort this out please?

Thanks in advance.

What you need to do is peel away the padded sticker from the front of the receiver, this sticker is so thick and opaque it isn't letting hardly any signal through.
To make it look better I used a hole punch just were the ir receiver is, then put the sticker back, it took a few goes as it's really difficult to get the hole spot on so I have a few holes were the ir sensor is, now sit back, relax and use your remote at the far end of your room.

At least that's what solved my problem and I can't see it not working for you.

Let me know how you get on :)

Nice! Just bought a neet 4*2 hdmi matrix. Takes 4 inputs and can output to two different sources with both showing the same or different inputs. Also can output all audio via a single optical out. Was 80£.
