Hi Guys,

Complete router noob here.

I purchased a NetGear N750 router as suggested by a friend, what else do I need to use it as the ethernet type cable doesn't fit into the socket thing that my old Sky router is plugged into.:o:(:p

My current router/all in one is from Sky, I got it many years back and felt it's time for an upgrade.

Do I need a modem? If so, what's the best one to go for?

Regards

You have got a router without a modem which is why it won't fit. You will need to get a modem and then connect this to the router.

Have a look on the internet for good modems, I have only ever used a modem router so I am sorry I can't help much.

What's the bonus of having a router with modem build-in anyway? Last question, the N750 is a decent router right (For me)? :D

The bonus is generally lower cost and simplicity.

You've bought a router that's intended for a cable (read Virgin) connection (or FTTC).

What were you hoping to gain by replacing the Sky supplied kit?
