Wow this game is stunning,

Only just got out of the sewers at the start and have decided I am ganna start again and make a better character.

The depth seems to be endless from what I have read.

Anyone else playing this?

Any useful tips you could give me please?

Thanks Luke

I'm debating trading mine in.

Loved the game but i'm kinda just not getting into it anymore.

I would still reccomend it to anybody tho'

A little tip, unless you want to stay that way, try to avoid becoming a vampire, its a pain in the rump to cure.

One tip I have, save the game just before reaching the gate of the sewers :P.
You can then edit race/skills etc and start from afresh.

My main game is 72 hours, only got the fighters guild left to do, and a small part of the main quest but still loving the game. Character is a warrior type.

Just started a caster aswell and enjoying playing from start again.

Agreed. Its ok for a while, but if you are in the middle of a quest where you have to sleep anger levels rise because of sun damage.

Post from one of the game Devs

"Xbox 360 – Long Pauses with Hard Drive"

Oblivion uses the Xbox 360 hard drive extensively to cache (copy and reuse) game data. This is done to optimize all loading the game does. It has been found in rare cases on some Xbox 360s that the cached data can get overly fragmented. This exhibits itself by the game taking a long time to load anything from menus, dialogue, sounds, objects, levels, and more.

To solve this problem, reset your Xbox, and hold down the A button as the game is booting up. If any button is held while Oblivion is loading, it will clear its hard drive cache, and create a new one. Once you see the “Bethesda Softworks” logo video, the game is already loaded, and the cache should have been cleared.

Note, this does not effect your game in any way other than loading. You will not lose any saved data.

excellent game you can get lost in it if your in the right mood, currently had 90 hours of play out of it and no where near yet.

Yeah apart from the fact that you can defeat any enemy and complete the game at level 1 and as you gain levels the game gets harder. And of course you need to use the same skill over and over and over again to improve it and gain levels instead of using the tried and proven exp system.

I know you do but Im surprised the xbox.com site doesnt advertise that fact.

:p EDIT - I KNOW NOTHING "For those of you that have been wondering, just a quick word. Oblivion does not REQUIRE a hard drive to work on Xbox 360. It will work on every Xbox 360. We would recommend you get one if you have the means, but it is in no way a requirement.

Now that we know the hard drive is not required to play the game, one must speculate how long the load times will be without one on such a large scaled game such as Oblivion."

Be prepared to lose your life I've lost count of the number of times I have played this at night only to see the sun coming up the next morning and the wife shouting why haven't I gone to bed.

I seem to get the long load times when I have played the game awhile, its fine when you first start playing and gradually take longer and longer the more you play it and I don't have a hard drive yet.

I just started playing this last week. Got about 8 hours in when I had to take my console back so lost all my saves :(

Started again the other day. I'm a breton/battlemage with birthsign mage. Hoping to see some cool magic but still be able to mix it with a sword :) Though so far I'm finding my magic to be pretty useless and weak so I'm pretty much just using my sword at the moment. Hopefully the magic stuff will beef up soon, I've just levelled up to level 3.

I'd say if you want an easier time go for the warrior with maximum strength. I'm getting bored of the 'over encumbered' message all the time  the lower your strength the less you can carry, so by the time a mage has a few weapons, some armour and some other bits and bobs that's it.

Apparently armour weakens your magic but it's impossible at the beginning to play without it. Two hits and you're dead!!

Oh and a question to other Oblivion players (sorry for crashing your thread a bit R^T)

is anyone else finding the controls a real letdown sometimes when in close combat? I'm getting frustrated with the sneak feature as when I'm fighting close up in melee and things are a bit hectic if I try to withdraw so I can use my magic, I'm finding it impossible to not press the Left thumbstick and enabling the sneak... thus making it impossible to get away and I just get murdered as I can't heal myself :(

..and what a waste of time block is, even with a shield!

My big tip is to avoid a character class that has the combat, magic and sneak as it's "major skills".
The reason - your level rises in line with your major skills......sounds stupid not to have them then doesn't it? Well, normally I'd say yes, except that all the baddies level goes up at the same time as yours, so although you may be stronger, so are they!
So, by having crap things as your major skills makes it possible to raise your combat/sneak and magic (the best and most useful skills) to a high level without raising your overall level (effectively keeping the enemy weak whilst you get strong), which long term has a major effect!
Also, save every time you go to use a lockpick......otherwise you'll go through them like no ones business and end up having to buy them - very frustrating!

Hmm, good tips there I think. I'm struggling and have magic as a major skill that's levelling up quicker than anything... thinking of restarting it.

I've found the lockpicking easy!

There's a trick to it and once you learn it's not too difficult to pick the hardest locks with no skill level. I watch the lock for when it drops very quickly, you can almost guarantee it won't fall quickly again on the next push and break your lockpick so use that moment to click it in place.

Not 100% everytime but I only usualy break a couple of picks now on anything over medium :)
