Evening all,

I received today my binned 7700k as per this thread:

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18765975

I applied all the settings as per the 4.8ghz bundle thread (changing to 5.0 of course):

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18764243

+ A voltage of 1.35 and the and VCCSA of 1.0 and VCCIO of 1.05 as per the main thread.

Everything was groovy, tested in CINEBENCH/Heaven & Intel Stress Test. No dramas whatsoever. My temps never went above 64c as well.

My problem now is that BF4 is crashing for me, I'll hop onto test range and run around for a bit and get 'this program has stopped working'. Same thing happens on Overwatch & GTA

Nothing about my set up has changed bar the new CPU and its performing find in the bench marks/tests.

Any ideas or something obvious I'm missing.

I am running:

Maximus IX with the latest firmware.
32gb 3200mhz Hyper Predator Ram
+ a Titan XP (it and the CPU on a custom loop) which never breaches 50c in game.

I've checked all my drivers being up to date.

Anything else that may be useful to know, please do let me know.

Gutted as on the face of it this has appeared to have been a great little upgrade and looking at the benchmarks/stress tests everything appears to be working correctly. Except for actually in games which is the sole purpose of this rig.

Appreciate any help/guidance you can come up with.

Kind Regards

no matter what a advert says no overclock or setting are guaranteed.
you will need to set your system as per any normal overclock. if you not stable at 5Ghz turn it down.

what they bin a CPU, they will used hand picked motherboard, ram, cooler, psu and so on. and then if the CPU is good for 5Ghz it dont mean your set up will run that CPU at said speed.

I'd try different settings first ie Vcore ,VCCSA ,VCCIO .

From 8packs post in the thread below
Suggested settings for 5g:
- Vcore 1.32-1.39v load typically 1.35v needed at most.
-VCCSA 1.00 -1.10v for 3200mhz mems Upto 1.25 for DDR4000mhz +
-VCCIO 1.00-1.10v for 3200mhz mems. upto 1.25 For DDR4000mhz +

+warranty upto 1.425v load if you want to push further.

Thanks both, will tweak a bit on the settings then.

I of course understand that there would always be variable which is why I ran the benches + stress tests prior to launching a game. Everything seemed fine there.

Appreciate the responses.

Any further thoughts will of course be more than welcome.

Remove overclock on GPU if you have one, Reset bios and try a lower over clock like 4.5Ghz and work your way up to testing in game.

stress testing dose not always work.... i was told by 8pack over the phone when i had a problem to test a system by using it. i had a 100% stress test stable(12hr prime) i5 6400 @ 4.5Ghz but when i opened chrome it would crach

Good shout and fair enough, will work my way up.

Thanks again.

What about dropping memory clocks?

With my 5820k, I could run a pretty good core overclock with 2400mhz ram, but trying to get it to work with xmp enabled at 3000mhz caused some issues with even minor overclocks (think the memory controller in my chip just isn't very good)

I will give that a try as well. Looks like my error was relying on benchmark/stress test programs when really i should be looking at in real life situations.

Open ADIA 64 and heaven bench. Start the CPU stress test in AIDA and see how it goes for a couple min. After couple of mins start running some loops in Heaven 64. AIDA handles quite a lot of stressing on the CPU side of things (Cache, mem, threads, etc) whilst Heaven puts a lot of stress on the GPU at the same time. Its how i stress my system over all.

Seems strange that the CPU seems fine in various CPU stress test but games brings things to its knees. Does point towards the GPU.

Another thing are you running Windows 10? (could be important)

Yup running windows 10, should have mentioned.

GPU appears to be fine it's been running all these games perfectly until this one. I have been running an extra 200hz on my titan and its appeared to be solid. I will start over with that though as I start over and begin to ramp things up. Oh and I should have clarified, all the games will run for a few mins. Then crash.

Just wondering what VCore you're running? Temps look great so it looks like you have some headroom to push them a little higher.

Was running at 1.35- the binned chip sale pagesaid it should run 5ghz somewhere between 1.32-1.39. The box the cpu came in from OCUK said 1.35 so I may of incorrectly assumed that was what was recommended.

From everything that has been said I should really just take everything back to stock and start building my way up, happy with my temps at that level though so know I can push the Vcore a bit more if it helps.

Thanks, will give it a try as well.

Excuse the ignorance (the only way I'll learn). What are the pros and cons of learning them in auto as opposed to the recommended levels posted?

Cheers

Auto rules are designed to operate in worst case conditions. What this will tell you, though, is if those voltages are the root cause of the instability. Typically for those memory speeds you shouldn't need more than 1.2v.

I would simply increase the vcore. Games can upset an otherwise stable overclock. Try 1.360, 1.365, 1.370 and so on.

ive had many a stable CPU while stress testing that would crash in game battlefield bad company used to do it everytime. Gone are the days when 12hrs prime would guarantee a good overclock.

I would do minimal stress testing and just use your PC normally to test clocks, a bit of a worry if you are using the PC for work or encoding.

This would be my choice as well if all other settings are correct/as specified. Do you have whea errors in event viewer?
