Purchasing replacement monitor - timing

Hi all,

I bought a new Pc last year (7770k/1080ti), and had a Acer Predator XB271HU, which I was broadly really happy with until it randomly developed a sort of black crack under the glass, that gradually grew and corrupted the screen. Acer are refusing to say it's their product fault after sending it back (FYI their customer support has been apppaling), so I feel like ive got no choice but to look for a new monitor.

I think the only thing id be really keen to look for upgrade wise might be HDR, and im aware that theres more LG monitors coming soon aswell (in March)? I'm still a bit unsure re ultrawides, as whenever I've tried one it left me with some minor motion sickness (FOV maybe?).

I just wondered if people thought it would be best to hold of for a while, rather then say opting for a replacement similiar model with whats available at the moment? I'm aware the equivalent monitors to the XB271HU are over 2 years old now, so it maybe seems not a great idea to invest in one again now?

any advice gratefully recieved.

Depends on your situation and budget. Sounds like the HDR standard around PC monitors and Windows 10 has some way to go before it settles down. And then the cost of these monitors will be high initially.

I need a new monitor sooner than later, so I've gone for a new IPS 34" 3440x1440 Ultrawide monitor (at a good discount). This will be a decent upgrade over my old TN BenQ 24XL20T and be worthy of my new rig. Can always move to an HDR version in future once it becomes more standardised and cheaper.

Any decent monitor you upgrade to, even without HDR is still going to give you some benefits over your old one. Its not like there are loads of games supporting HDR on the PC right now anyway.
