Purchasing Windows Vista advice.

The OEM version also has this right and you get the media the same way as the upgrade or retail editions.

You need to have a qualifying product installed to be able to use the upgrade license, without it it's useless, so you can't use it on the Mac. Also, don't bother buying secondhand versions, it's really not worth the potential hassle.

You can get the OEM edition of Business for about £85, so it's not far off the second hand price, seriously go new.

I haven't commited yet, But I have checked with the shop and they are sealed copies. The appeal for me is getting the ultimate version for less than £100 tbh.

For the MAC which will be in a few months I may buy an OEM Business version or something.

I'm a bit dubious as there is very little profit in selling Windows so I'm unsure to why it's so cheap.

Just be careful.

Me too, they are selling it for over 100 pounds less than a new retail upgrade copy but I have bought stuff from them before and they give you 12 months to return it etc.

I have also read there is ways to install the upgrade version without actually installing xp or 2k first. Anyone know much about this?

all you do is is first install vista but dont use no serial number then launch the upgrade from vista once its been installed.

Clever. I was just gonna do an xp install and ghost it before you even boot into xp. Then everytime I want to re-install quickly ghost xp installation onto the hard drive (2-3 mins) then boot from vista dvd and upgrade.

Anyway got the disk from the shop just now, full original packaging, they say it hasnt been activated and I can bring it back if it has, so £95 for vista Ultimate seems a bargain as I was willing to pay upto £100 for Business edition.

Cheers for everyone's advice!!!
