Needing an operating system for a Shuttle system i won on the popular auction site, i spotted someone selling WinXP Home COA's from u/s laptops. Having already got a WinXP Home CD, is there anything to stop me from just purchasing a COA and using that key on the new system??? Or will MS throw a fit when i come to activate it???

Even if the lappy's were never installed, its against microsofts terms & conditions to sell just a COA. Either the software should come pre installed, with the COA label attached to the machine, OR as a complete pack, with CD and COA, so you can install yourself, and stick the label on.

Believe it or not, if you dont stick the label on your machine, your XP license is strictly speaking not in accordance with microsofts terms and conditions for OEM software. Retail software doesnt need the sticker to be valid.

It 'MAY' work, but its about as legal as downloading XP and hacking the activation. (IE Not at all)
