Hi all,

My friend has asked me to price him up a new video editing rig.

He just needs core components, CPU, MOBO, RAM, SSD

He has case, OS, keyboard, 2x2TB HDD, and a corsair HX620

His current GPU is a 512 4850

There is no real budget, but doesnt want to go silly

Ive come up with this,

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus P9X79 PRO Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 Motherboard £221.99
1 x Intel Core i7-3820 3.60GHz (Sandybridge-E) Socket LGA2011 Processor - Retail £215.99
1 x Samsung 256GB SSD 830 Series SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive - (MZ-7PC256B/WW) £142.99
1 x Samsung Green 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz 30nm Dual/Quad Channel Kit (MV-3V4G3D/US) £101.98
1 x Asus PCE-N15 300Mbps 802.11B/G/N Wireless PCI-E Network Adapter £29.99
Total : £724.33 (includes shipping : £9.50).

He needs the wifi card to connect to the network, his current mobo has it built in

Will he need a new graphics card, or his is current one ok

comments welcome, thanks

His current card is fine unless the program he edits with has specific needs/issues.

However, it would be a bit of a shame to saddle such a powerful system with an old card should he fancy playing some games.

Gone down the i7 route but included a quality cooler so a 4.4Ghz clock should be easy whilst remainning fairly quiet, if you were to run the 3820 at these speeds i would imagine it would JUST edge ahead due to the quad channel memory. Included a gfx card which should give around a 33%boost http://www.hwcompare.com/13558/geforce-gtx-650-vs-radeon-hd-4850-512mb/ the extra memory it has will certainly be a bonus when editing and consume about half the power :)

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £239.99
1 x Samsung 250GB SSD 840 SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TD250BW) £149.99
1 x Asus P8Z77-V Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £145.99
1 x Samsung Green 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz 30nm Dual/Quad Channel Kit (MV-3V4G3D/US) £101.98
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 650 OC Power Edition 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £95.99
1 x BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 2 CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/1155/1156/1366/2011/AMD FM1/AM2/AM2+/AM3/AM3+) £61.99
Total : £807.92 (includes shipping : £10.00).

edit. OP you need to add a cooler as the 3820 does not come with one
