I bought a Zalman heatsink to replace the whiny fan on the northbridge. I had to remove the motherboard to get at the back and try and force the push pins out. I pushed and pushed and finally gave up in a fit of rage.

I reassembled and now the chipset fan is dead

Oh well, at least the whiny noise is gone. :p

I hate chipset coolers with a passion, never mind the push pins!
Other a8n sli deluxe owners will sympathize.

If the fan is dead it might fry, best not to run it untill its got some proper cooling. When these things fry, theres no thermal shutdown, it will just bsod and eventually smoke.

Common sense would suggest that the hottest chipset ever, designed to be placed under the end of a graphics card with only 10mm of cooling space would include a thermal shutdown, but sadly nvidia's nforce4 sli design team lacked any sense at all.

I've got a zalman somewhere but it needs chopping up, and i'm not taking the board out to pop the pushpins through. I nearly damaged the board when i replaced the first faulty chipset cooler, kept slipping off the pushpin. So yes i also hate pushpins.
