Push to hear?!

I was just wandering. I always find it a real pain to take out my headphones to talk, or say thank yu etc when I'm listening to my music. I would like to be able to push a button quickly to Activate the mic inside the iPhone so that I can quickly hear a cashier etc. I've tried searching the app store and googling but they dont turn anything up.

Any help?!

Use the remote headphones and pause the music?

i have a pair of shire 535's which cut about 48dB of noise makes listening to people difficult without taking them out which is a bit of a faf.

not even the voice recorder will do this
