Hey guys,

I have a query concerning using a desktop mic alongside headphones, this is the mic I have:

I also have a xfi titanium hd sound card. I was wondering how do I setup push to talk with this mic? At the moment when I have it plugged in I hear ambient noise constantly through my headphones...not ideal.

I can't work out how to set up push to talk with this mic...any help would be great, thanks.

I think what I need is to turn off the "listen" feature so I don't hear everything through my headphones?

Then I just press whatever key I have assigned in the software I'm using and it should work.

Ok I get it now...bit of a blonde moment.

Using "silencer" in the creative panel and its working now.

Yeah you don't need to listen to the mic just have it enabled as your input device.

If you want to make sure it works properly then most voice com programs like Mumle/Teamspeak/Vent etc have a way of testing it. Failing that you can test it using the built in Windows recorder function by using it to record yourself to see how you sound.

If you want a push to talk then all you need to do is isolate the mic, full stop. Simply use a switch to switch the mic on and off. This will work fine so long as your PC uses the presense detect for the jack plug itself. If not then the soundcard will see the mic one minute as a device then not the next which of course will cause issues.
