Ok, wasn't sure where to put this, so here goes:

is there a difference in copying files from computer A to computer B;
on A drag/copy files to B
on B drag/copy files from A

Could there be a difference in speed and depending on things like cpu power on each pc?
Just thinking of a scenario whereby i'd ripping a BD to my SSD on A. When it's done, i start to rip another movie to the SSD and at the same time copy the first BD over the network to the WHS2011 box.
Would it be better to go onto the WHS2011 box and start the ripped BD across, or initiate the copying from the same pc i'm already ripping another BD from?

Advice appreciated, ta. :)

Could you not just rip directly to the WHS box? I personally wouldn't want to be filling my SSD with the rips - I'd just choose my destination path as "\\server\Videos\" etc

Whilst the BD ripping is a real scenario, i actually think it would be faster and more stable to rip to local hard drive rather than network drive, it was more of an example to set the scene for my question really.
Push v pull.

You could time it manually. :p Just copy a file over, time it, then pull the same file back and time it as well.

Can also try LAN Speed Test to test your LAN speeds (the free version is last link).

Will prioritisation of Background Services vs. Programs impact this? Just thinking that there is going to be one "lead" PC which has a file transfer window, with a concious action on-going - the other PC is going to be receiving a background file operation.

Lol, yeah, the obvious method i guess. I use Lan spped Test at work, so i'll use that.

But forgetting ripping the BD then, was just interested if there might be a general difference in copying data between 2 computers. Initialise the copying on the more powerful pc perhaps?
