Hi,

I'm sure there's other mums and dads out there on OCUK!!

Its actually a baby travel system we're after (or at the very least a stroller which we can attach a car seat to). We did have the Mamas & Papas O-Zon system (pram - stroller - car seat attachment) but after sending one back, then the replacement developing a fault, we're looking for a new system altogether.

All recommendations are welcome - budget is £300 - £400 (would prefer suggestions towards the £300 end though :))

Its needs to be for babies of 4+ months old.

Cheers! :)

Take yourself off to Mothercare. We got our latest pushchair from Mamas & Papas but it cost £400 and isn't a travel system. Whenever we go and buy baby clothes Mothercare always seem to have full travel systems.

Yeah we did that initially - I'm calling on the experience people have had with their pushchairs.
The Ozon system we bought 'looked' great and did everything we wanted - we had no idea it would prove to be a load of rubbish! (An expensive load of rubbish at that!).

Kiddicare in Peterborough has a massive range of pushchairs and systems on show. Granted, it's a long way from you, but if you ever pass that neck of the woods, it's worth popping in. They also have a decent website.
As to which one to go for, it depends what you want. Are you looking for something that can be used on rough ground, something trendy, something light, something solid etc.

You really just need to go along to someone like Mothercare or John Lewis and try them all out. Some are too heavy and cumbersome to lug about or the mechanism is too fiddly. We made a big mistake and bought a trendy 3 wheeler and it was a nightmare. You had to take the front wheel off to get it into the boot of the car and the steering was awful. We ended up buying a cheap fold up to go out with and the 3 wheeler just got used locally. You also need one that matches your height as if it is too low, you will get back ache from pushing it.

We had a Graco Trio which we liked as it did the travel system thing but also had an umbrella fold which meant it did not take up the whole boot.

As others have said go to Mothercare and give them a test drive! There are so many features like size wieght, foldability, handle height and adjustment, storage, carrying capacity etc...

We're got a Mountain Buggy one on order from New Zealand although you can get them here in the UK. They're quite pricey (unless you can get the mum in law to bring it over from NZ ;) ) but they're absolutely fantastic.

We got ours from Mothercare, but you really need to go there and try stuff out. It's the only way to get one which suits you, and you can try the buggy / clip in the baby seat etc and get a feel for which one is right.

We ended up avoiding the fancy 3 wheeler things, and got a 4 wheel buggy with child seat that clips in etc. Really good. I think it was Britax? Was about £300 but worth the money. Get down there NOW.

We have just purchased a Silvercross pram from Mothercare. I cannot recall the exact model, but believe its the Jet 3D range, it is £345 there but they are currently having a sale at the moment so got it for sub £300.

When we had our first child we purchased a Trenton Deluxe Travel System from Mothercare and had no problems with it at all. However, that weighed 15kg's alone and the wife wants something lighter this time for when she is out and about alone with the 2 kids.

The Silvercross one weighs just shy of 10kg and has plenty of storage room and it comes with all the necessary requirements you are after.

Don't just go and buy what looks good. Make sure its functional (and hopefully mutlifunctional).
We bought a travel system that consisted of a light pram with a detachable seat which doubled as a car seat and a buggy, also had a normal pram seat which could be set to face forwards or flat.
Be buggered if i can remember what it was though!

Car seat, some bamboo cane and some garden twine. Oh, and an old skateboard.

Budget pushchair and environmentally friendly.

I have a 6 month old daughter and we have the Jane (pronounced Hannay) Nomad travel system. It's quite good and larger than a normal stroller.

We haven't used the car seat on the pushchair for quite a while now, as she is really quite big and a has more room in the pushchair out of the car seat.

You maybe better off getting a separate car seat and pushchair. This will give a much wider range to of strollers to choose from and will probably be cheaper in the long run. Britax do a car seat that faces rear & them can be turned around when they are old enough. My wife wants one of these now, but I am trying to get her to wait until Xmas, when Isabelle will be old enough to fit in a group 1, as there is much more choice.

We went out and bought a "travel system" too. In the end it was a bit of a waste of money as the pushchair we tended to use on the more regular basis was one of the very light, very cheap, folding ones just because of the pure convenience.

We did also have one of those as our boy got a little older and we were going to be pushing it around for a bit longer than the bigger one.

We went with a Jane (Hannay) but it was utter overkill and way beyond the budget but it has disk brakes and suspension :) The Quinny Zap or similar and the appropriate maxi cosy baby seat are light, small enough to fit in any car (I get them in a smart roadster) and pretty durable but not suitable for taking 'off road' due to the lack of any suspension and the wheels. The buzz is the net quinny up and is nice enough but the '08 version had issues, I doubt you'd get a toddler in it comfortably but apparently they've got a new version out that is more toddler friendly now.

Go to John Lewis as the people at mothercare are only interested in demonstrating/selling the systems not actually taking the time to show you the advantages to each system or more importantly why one is better than the other. We were all set to spend on the Zap till we felt the weight of it!
