Pushing the Limits of Windows: Physical Memory

Doesnt say anything new that hasnt been said so far ;-).

About that 92gb system and like 32 cores (cba to count), I wonder if it can run crysis.

it has 64 cores and 2TB RAM, the 92GB is the current ram in use, thats more ram than most people have hard drive space,

It's all greek to me all in that blog. Let's say I'm on XP and I have installed 4GB of ram and a graphics card with 1GB of memory. So from what I gather XP will then recognise 3GB of RAM?

It may be slightly less than 3GB because other devices need to be mapped into that same addressing range as well.

There is no "actual" amount a 32-bit operating system will be able to address. It is normally in the region of 3GB. However, this does not mean that every system that has a 32-bit operating system installed along with 4GB of memory, will in definite, see 3GB of memory, it is very much dependent on the type of hardware that said system consists off.

I see so the answer is that there really isn't a definite answer, bah :(

Well I think I'll just order my 4GB kit for the new system and see how it goes. I will probably be upgrading to Vista early next year so buying 4GB now can save me the hassle of trying to hunt down for same type of ram and give me the option of further upgrading to 8GB.

Thanks for advice.

Sensible approach imho

Bought 4gb (2x2) myself for a new build but running xp home.

No problems - am running 512mb 4870 and windows says I have 3.25 gb of ram

Am ready for 64bit Vista - if and when I get round to setting up :)
