Put together new system but can't even get to BIOS

Alright, reseating the CPU is probably my last option. I'll try that tomorrow even and let you guys know.

In the meantime, if anyone got any other ideas not yet discussed pleeeeease do let me know.

Cheers!!!!

Ok so I had good hopes for the CPU reseatign and just tried that out... And guess what!!! no.. It didn't work  (they don't have a smiley sad enough to express my sadness!).

So guess this is it, something is broken...

Now to work out if it's the chip or the board!

If I were in your shoes I'd RMA both and see what comes back as faulty. If you end up paying a £10 charge because of it, it's a small price to pay for a working machine ^_^

Yeah, you're right. Any idea how long an RMA usually takes?

I've RMA'd a good amount of stuff (due to a faulty motherboard killing 3 batches of RAM and an 8800GTX) and most of the time I got a new set within 7-10 working days.

Wow, that sucks dude!

Well I guess I'm going to be RMAing my mobo and ram then...

I've uploaded some pics of my system if anyone is interested.

Which PSU are you using? And if you remove the graphics card and start the machine do you still get the 2 beeps?

still dont see that you have actually reset the cmos, only that you have removed the battery. Or that you have checked the jumper is in the correct position. If you haven't tried it, then do it and hope it works :D
If you have, then RMA looks to be the only option.

There is no jumper on the CMOS pins. I tried touching the pins with a screwdriver, which according to the manual should reset the CMOS.

Good news guys! I've resolved the problem and there is nothing wrong with my hardware!!!!!

The problem was that I only plugged in 1 PCI-E power cable into my 4870X2!!

So after trying all those things I just need to plug a cable in!!

So, let me explain how this all snowballed into this huge problem!

First of all, the Powercolor 4870X2 didn't come with any manual! So I had no idea. The GPU has a 6 and a 8 pin power connector. I thought this was just to make life easier if you don't have a certain cable. I did actually try plugging in a PCI-E power cable, which is 6 pin with and extra 2 pins, which doesn't fit in the 6 pin, into the 8 pin connector but when I booted it actually showed an error on the screen, something like "warning, the power to your graphics card is not connected". So fine, I'll leave it in the 6pin!
So, with only 1 power cable plugged in my graphics card did start. The gpu fan did go to full speed and was extremely loud but I just thought that was because it's starting up. And there where some LED on on the GPU, which where red, so I thought things are fine.
So I tried all these different things and I kept getting the same beeping sound, even when took out my GPU, but obviously the GPU has the highest priority when it comes to booting.

I don't remember how I got the idea of connecting both power cables but that was obviously the solution.

Thank you and sorry to everyone who posted on this thread trying to help me!!!

Just read the thread - glad you got it sorted :)

The GPU BIOS generally loads before the motherboard BIOS, so if you have a problem like that with your graphics card it completely stalls the whole system.
