Putting 4GB into my laptop?

hey guys

I've got my laptop right, and as standard it comes pre-installed with 2GB.

I purchased 4GB and attempted to put it into my laptop - but it doesn't boot. On the POST it just counts up some sort of amount of memory and just freezes.

I search on my laptops chipset, and there are places which say it can handle 4GB of ram (which is why I purchased it).

Would it be to do with the fact that I have a 32-bit vista installed? I wouldnt think so because its well before it 'interacts' with the O/S and I thought that it would just show up 3GB anyway (as the 32bit cant address the 4GB etc)

does anyone have any ideas? thanks

From Crucial, I've looked up your laptop and it seems that it will only support 1GB of RAM per slot.

Crucial claims its the Intel943GML Chipset, is this correct?

It may be the chipset supports 4 gig however Toshiba's BIOS may not be compatable with over 2 gig which is why its not getting past the POST screen.

You could check for a more up to date BIOS however if you have tired the memory and it has not worked there is not much more you can do.

And no what OS you're runnign has no bearing on your problem, as you said the operating system has'nt even started loading.
