*edited again because the problem isnt the disk*

my rig is in my sig. im using the samsung DVD drive from this site, and windows 7

i was trying to play a game in my computer. this morning it played without a hitch. this evening it refuses to load: you put the DVD in the drive, and it will just spin away and the computer becomes unresponsive. mouse movement is about all you get. tried selecting task manager and it didnt work. as soon as the disk is ejected the computer is fine in every way and works normally. i have tried two different games in the same DVD drive, and both of them have worked just fine.

the really strange thing is, the problematic game works just fine in my dads DVD drive.

anyone got any ideas as to whats causing this?

bump

thought the problem was the disk. turns out its not. hopefully this bump will catch the attention of those who have viewed it previously when i said the problem was solved

I would try a few more discs.
I have had similar happen on machines in years gone by.
Does it happen as soon as you put the disc in? Can you turn of autoboot on it and see if you can double click to start it?

yes, it happens a few seconds after its spun up to speed.

will try the autoboot thing now, and the wiring in the morning.
i did do a little bit of cable re-routing 2 days ago, but it had been working fine so i didnt even think about it. maybe the cable for the DVD drive has come loose or something

Very likely the solution.

But if that fails, you could try cleaning the lens. Dust or nicotine build up on the lens can stop them reading discs properly.
