Putting a Pentium4 into something small

Hey, I'm hoping this is possible and cheap;
I own a Dell dimensions 5000 with a P4 at 3.00 and i'm pretty sure its socket 775
I've got 2 1gb sticks (and two 512mb but i dont think they'll fit)
I bought a 4670 for it too.
(sorry if I've used the wrong terms etc.. hopefully you know what I mean)
I'm guessing those are the parts I could reuse and put into a small machine.
I think i have two options, buying a shuttle(or another barebones system) and just adding all my parts, I've seen a few for around £180. Or buy all the parts on their own but this is where I get totally lost.
cheapest possible would be great thanks! :) xx

Edit: I don't mind second hand too much, I just worry about warranty

The dell dimension 5000 is a P4, and thats not a socket 775, its a socket 478.
The P4s also run pretty hot, from what I remember of them, so I wouldn't be rushing to put them into a small form factor case.
The 4670 looks like a nice single slot card, so there's no problem in using that in a SFF setup.
After a quick google, it looks like there are some shuttles that are socket 478, good luck finding them, had a quick look at the bay, and couldn't see any in particular. Also, not sure if the 4670 is AGP or PCI-e, be careful with the shuttles, as the ones that I did see sported AGP slots, not PCI-e.
Good luck!

Hey cheers for the advice,
the 4670 is in a pci-e slot atm (im 90% sure)
and I downloaded cpu-z to check what my p4 was,
it says socket intel pentium 4 530, 775 lga, code name prescott,

ill keep looking!

ebay and m-atx (if that is small enough for you) is your best bet. Otherwise if you start looking for 775 socket mini-itx you are going to struggle to find something that support PCI-E x16 at a low cost.

oops my bad, didn't realise that prescotts were 775....
yeah, guardsmon about sums it up- i recently got a socket A shuttle for a silly price of ~£150 of the bay, new though, so i guess...
m-itx wise, i'd recommend a zotac 9300 with wifi, but thats about ~80 I'd guess, and then you have to shell out for case, etc. also double check that you have ddr2 ram

Yeah I'd recommend that board as it supports socket 775 CPU's, DDR2 RAM and it has a PCI-e slot. I've just built a machine on the weekend and it's a great little board, the only thing that might put you off, OP, is the price. I've only seen them for £100+ and mine cost £115. Also, OcUK don't seem to have them on their shop at all. Case wise I'd highly recommend the Silverstone Sugo SG05B. OcUK are out of stock at the moment but I'm sure you can find it elsewhere as I did, it's a very nice little case and has decent airflow as well. By the way, I know somebody suggested Ebay but personally I wouldn't go down that route, there are a lot of genuine sellers but also a lot of scammers and personally I wouldn't want to take a punt, I'd rather buy from a reputable computer store. You will save money on Ebay no doubt, but for me it just isn't worth the risk after all of the horror stories that crop up on here quite frequently.

I wouldn't go the Shuttle route personally because that can end up being expensive, unless you go second hand. Also, I'm not sure if you'd prefer to get a Core 2 Duo instead, they run much cooler for sure, and that's one of the main things that you'll want when looking to downsize. :)

double check any new board supports older pentiums, a lot have dropped support in fovour of compatibility with newer lower voltage cpu's

on G31 chipset any old s775 p4 is supported in my experience, you just cant use pc4200 ram in it, if you want to use your old ram go with an older chipset
