Can I take both of my Maxtor 500 + 320 GB external hard drives apart and put them in my pc instead of using them externally?

Its currently running quite slow when I move large files around through a USB, I'm hoping to put the two hard drives in my PC.

In theory yes although chances are that the drives will be IDE rather than SATA and the board in your sig only supports 2 IDE devices. So if your DVD drive is IDE you're out of ports.

reeto, I'll make my mind up which hard drive to take apart and put just the one in then, thanks

how slow will the (now external) drive be in comparison to SATA? my current internal hdd is: 500GB Western Digital 16MB Cache SATA-2 Hard Drive

Depends on which exact model of drive each one is. For example there are at least 3 different models of WD 500Gb / 16Mb SATA300 drive.

im not sure to be honest, got this computer pre-bult from overclockers. i take it that it will be quicker than being external, by quite a bit, but not quite as quick as my current SATA drive
