Hi guys,

I have ordered the following ...

Asus P4P800 SE
Corsair TX750W PSU
Akasa Zen-Black Silent Midi ATX Case (AK-ZEN01V2-BK)
Samsung 20x DVD WRITER BARE DRIVE NERO BLACK (SH-S202H/BEBN)
Sony 1.44MB Internal 3.5" Black (MPF920-Z/121)

I've recently bought/have...

1GB Samsung DDR266 PC2100 X2 (2GB)
P4 2.8Ghz CPU (SL7EY)
Plexiwriter Premium CDRW
Freecom FX50 DVDRW

Need to get a graphics card.

What AGP Graphics Card should I get for this motherboard?
Would most be able to handle 128 MB Shader model 1.1 compatible?

Forgot to mention that the manual states AGP 8X/4X (0.8V, 1.5V only)

Any input gratefully received. ;)

128mb shader model 1.1 is DirectX 8.1, so you're looking at something between radeon 9200 - 9800 or something in the geforce FX series.

i got an Asus P4P800SE.. sitting in a cupboard doing nothing till and i get a couple of parts and make a little internet machine with it. Thing is why did you get this man because these parts are a few generations back! ive upgraded twice since then and stepped from P4 or Core2duo, AGP to PCIe 2.0 and DDR1 to DDR2 Ram.. maaaan what a huuuuge difference!!! If your any sort of gamer you should try to at least get cheap newer parts, it will easily thrash the old tech. But anyway you have your reasons, not the wisest thing to do for sure.

I had a Gainward 7800GS 512mb in my P4P800SE it was ok but its well past its sell by date now with all the new games, the AGP bus was just killing it. Now using PCIe2.0 everything is so much more smoother and lagfree!!! Games i couldnt run i max out now.

I suggest a ATi X1950 or a cheap AGP card depending on your budget and if you play games.

:)

I've got Asus P4P800 w/P4 2.8A (533mhz/1mb) @ 3.23 with 512mb ram and 128mb sapphire radeon 9550 sitting here as university machine.

Really depends on what you'll use the comp. for, this one here is only really for basic stuff - word, internet, v. light gaming (footy manager, halo 1/2, postal 2), Architectural Desktop 07 drawings. Graphics is fine for what I need.

But my god the difference between this system and my Athlon X2 at back at home, is a joke, seriously this is old technology. However it does do it's job, albeit somewhat slower than the other.

Agree with slinky that the 750W PSU is overkill.

The most powerfult AGP card is the 3850pro 512mb by HIS I think but at £150 it's not worth it.

If you're just looking at 128mb sm1.1 get a cheapo 2nd hand 9800pro.

Thanks for the input guys.

I'm not one for keeping up to date with stuff as you may have realised. :)
Just need it for Internet, Word processing, Email and a bit of video editing, hence the best value for money graphics card.
I also thought this was a good board for OCing my P2.8.
Will check out all the options.

No doubt I'll be back for more info when I decide to try some overclocking.

Thanks again.

Kevin

Due to imminent upgrade (see my thread), I have an ATI Radeon 9800 XT card (£400 quid when I bought it new. ouch) and P4 3.2ghz cpu for sale if youre interested. They will be cheap.

I assume both are in good working order? How about £30?
Do you have paypal account? Where do you live?

Kevin

Edit: Actually, just to check, can you tell me please if that 9800 fits these requirements?

Is it specificlly the HIS version that is the best?

Just noticed the sapphire one on OCUK as well for £120 which is a lot cheaper than HIS but then at that price you can get a nice OC version 8800GT PCI-E that's a lot better.

Besides I'd imagine the 3850pro will be severely limited by a P4.
