Puzzled about PCI-E PSU adapter!

My PSU doesn't have the 6-Pin PCI-E graphics connector, it's a cheapy one. I got an adaptor with my X1950 pro, It has two of the usual 4-pin connectors on it, this then converts into a single 6-pin.
Anway, I connected just one of these 4-pin connectors up, not knowing you were supposed to connect up two. And the result? the card runs fine! Even benches as it should in 3d mark. So why do they come with two connectors, are you supposed to connect them both up?!

if you look at the 6 pin connector there are 2 yellow wires, 1 should go to one molex the other yellow to the other molex, i personally wouldn't starve a card of power, could cause damage, crashing etc, i know my 5950u moaned when it didn't have enough power.

Just funny how it works fine! If I plug in the other 4-way now, (when the PC is off) it's not going to blow the card or anything is it? I mean that's definetly the way they are meant to function, 2 4-pin into 1 6-pin?

 If you even thought about doing it whilst it was still on!

That actually made me smile (not suggesting the OP would do such a thing) but makes me wonder how many people randomly unplug hard drives or GPU's while their PC is still powered on... I would imagine there are a few :p

Well I did see if my sound card was in properly in when the PC was on :o Came up with a windows encountered a serious problem window :p

OMG that really did make me LOL...

I can imagine the message now "windows has a serious problem, the machine it is installed on is being operated on while it is awake... windows is in pain!"

"Tell user to return PC to shop as he is not competent to own it". :p

Yes thats how the power is meant to be fed to the card if you dont have a pci-e connector.

Some years back, 3 or 4AM, slightly drunk, doing a brand spanking new Athlon 1.33 rig, must've pulled out the monitor cable by mistake... thought she was off, pulled out a NIC and saw a biggggggg blue spark and pop! Wonder of wonders only the NIC died! was only a 10mbit NIC i used to get the other drivers off the server as Windows 2000 had drivers for it already :D
