Puzzling Card Trick

A mate did this card trick at lunchtime. Has anyone seen it before or know how it works?

He picked 2 cards one was the 4 of hearts the other was a black joker.
He then asked sombody to pick which cards he believed were reds and blacks and to put them face down in 2 separate piles

After a while he give the deck to sort over to the friend and after a few more cards he put the 4ofhearts on the red pile and the black joker on the black pile.
My friend then carried on and sorted the rest of the cards

The Magician the turned over all the cards and on one side of the 4ofHearts there were black cards and on the other there were red cards and vise versa with the other pile.

i think i know what you're talking about. i used to enjoy the odd card trick in my youth.

what you do is split the pack so all of the colours are together. ie all the reds first and the blacks second.

and then you put a red card and a black card face up and then ask someone to say if it's a red or a black card. and you put them on the appropriate pile.

of course, no matter what, they are all red cards going on both pile.

all of this time, the "magician" is counting the cards.

now when they have counted all the red cards out, the magician stops the process in some way and puts 2 more cards face up.

this is just so they know when the black ones start and the reds end.

then they put the cards on either red or black pile, but of course they are all black.

then there's some jiggery pokery at the end to sort the cards into piles, but at the end of the day all the blacks are together and so are the reds.
