PWM flicker issue with new LCD screen

Hi folks

Can anybody help me decide if my new replacement LCD screen for my Acer Aspire laptop is faulty?

I needed a new screen after the backlight totally died on my original screen. The new screen is an LG Philips model, and seems to be compatible on the whole, but there is a strange problem with PWM flicker on certain brightness settings, an issue I expected would not be a problem with a new screen. It
happens even if I have the adapter frequency set at 100Hz or 200Hz.

The symptoms are that at certain brightness settings, the screen has a visible flicker, but not exactly as I would have expected: it doesn't just get worse as the brightness is lowered, rather it is visible at some settings, but not visible at others in between. So as you reduce the brightness, the flicker appears like this: NOT VISIBLE; NOT VISIBLE; VISIBLE; VISIBLE; NOT VISIBLE; VISIBLE; NOT VISIBLE; VISIBLE, VISIBLE; VISIBLE. In other words, the flicker is intermittent as you go down through the brightness settings.

Is this some odd 'frequency matching' issue? Am I being unrealistic expecting the flicker to be absent at all settings, and is that why there is a range of brightnesses to choose from?

Does this problem indicate that either the screen backlight is already faulty, in this supposedly new replacement screen?

Or alternatively, does it mean that my inverter has also developed a fault, or is incompatible to a degree with my new screen?

I need more information before I can know what is best to do about returning the screen for a refund.

Thanks if you can help me sort this out!

Regards
