I currently have a LG L226W.
I will be buying a blu ray drive in the summer and been playing with the idea of a full HD screen.
Think it would be worth while to upgrade to the px2370, which is just drop dead gorgeous!
Hoping that my current monitor will sell for at least £100, but that would mean £200 to find......

Think it would be a worth while upgrade?
Mainly used for watching films and CAD work- 3ds max, photoshop type things.

edit: and using this formulae: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspect_ratio_(image)#Obtaining_height.2C_width_and_area_of_the_screen
I've worked out that i would only be loosing 0.3" in height, this correct?
Just I am looking for something the same height but full HD and sometimes my brothers sammsung monitor/hd feels smaller than mine!

I would suggest having a look at these monitors and see if you are interested in waiting. The U2311H sounds like it would do you well, it is 23in, 1920x1080 resolution and crucially it uses an IPS panel (compared to the TN on the PX2370). For your uses of watching films, CAD and photoshop - the colour accuracy, higher image quality and wider viewing angles of an IPS panel (compared to a TN) does make sense. If you need some more info on panel technologies - this is a good read.

The price of the U2311H seems to be $300 in the US - so expect it to be under £300 when it comes to the UK.

cheers, dont know why but I cant get excited about that.
But i suppose the colour changed, when Iam being lazy and rest my head on the desk/arm or if iam getting dressed and standing up over the monitor kinda annoys me.
But movie watching usually just takes place lying or sitting on my bed.

Aye, viewing angles are not generally a massive problem - but it is nice to have a monitor with wide ones. Here is a video comparing the picture produced by the 2209WA (uses a IPS panel very similar to the dells I linked to above) and a samsung based on the same TN technology as the PX2370.

But apart from the viewing angles - the colour of an IPS screen look better than a TN one, they tend to be much more accurate - which can be very useful in things like photoshop. Considering the Dell U2311H should cost less than the PX2370 (in the US the dell is $300, the Samsung is $330) then if you can wait you would be getting a better monitor for less money.

paused at 2seconds in to give it a chance to load.
but what I can see so far are yellows are more yellow, when you looking at the jumper hanging up. And it could just be my preference, but the shadow in the corner looks washed out, like not as deep/strong, but this could be how the film makers wanted it, as the shadow does seem rather a dark red and how of place almost, even though the stronger contrast does lend a certain element to it.
Moving around you can see the huge difference.
Blues seem to retain their clarity and darker tones dont seem to get that blend togeather and look like a dark grey colour.

when/if i get back into gaming would I notice a huge problem with ghosting or anything due to the 8ms response time?

edit2: and the only thing that sort of puts me off is the lack of HDMI input, but as of yet nothing is planned to be connected to it.

As with all response times, you have to take it with a pinch of salt - I would suggest waiting for an independent review site like TFT central or prad.de to do an in depth review and you will see how the response time really compares to other monitors.

However, the technology used by the U2311H seems to be very similar to the 2209WA - and that monitor is great for gaming. Its not quite as fast as some of the super quick TN panels - but it works really well and the rich colours make games come alive.

the only thing that sort of puts me off is the lack of HDMI input, but as of yet nothing is planned to be connected to it.

That is a point - but it does have a DVI port and that is electronically compatible with HDMI - so if you bought a £5 adapter or a £10 DVI-D to HDMI cable you would be sorted. Also, the Dell includes a DisplayPort - so you can connect your monitor up this way - and offers you the opportunity to do eyefinity in the future.

thanks!

you may have convinced me to wait it out....which due to finances I would have done anyway now Ive checked.

Looks like I'll be having a pretty pictures in monitor compared to a pretty monitor to look at :P

Also back to originial post, I wont be losing much on the height of the screen size, correct?

I just did the trig and a 23in 16:9 monitor is 0.382 inches smaller in the vertical compared to a 16:10 22 inch monitor, so if you round down - that is the same as the number you got.

If you want a bigger IPS monitor with even more vertical height, this HP ZR24w is £350 for a 24in 1920x1200 16:10. This monitor has just over an inch of extra vertical screen height compared to your current monitor. Here is a review.
