I have been using tkinter for my GUI up until now and am quite happy with the results but would I better served using my time learning one of those kits instead if so why or which is the better?

pygtk (and gtk2 in general) is a deprecated toolkit now, your better off choosing between pygi(gtk3) or pyqt4, qt4 is further along if your platform is windows at the moment, but if your on mac or linux both are about equal, as i said though, avoid pygtk bugfixes and improvements will be nonexistant, as pretty much no one is working on the bindings anymore.
