Been meaning to do some writing for a while, short stories and stuff like that, but as im not that dedicated I should probably go for a cheapish option.

Ive been looking at netbooks, especially the Aspire One, but realistically are the keyboards any good for doing a lot of typing on? If not any suggestion on a cheapish laptop good for writing, surfing the net, possibly watching movies and thats about it. Dont mind Linux but must have a goodish battery life.

Any thoughts appreciated.

it all depends on what screen size your after and how much you want to pay

i like the look of the Samsung NC10 myself

here are some pix http://www.tosk.co.uk/imgs/nc10/

selling price is a round £290.00, but if you want a bigger screen go for a
normal 15.4" laptop priced a round £300.00

the acer one netbooks look ok as well. and good for the price

the Toshiba Satellite Pro L300-153 looks ok as well and can be had for £310.00

I learnt to touch type pretty well, and as fast as I can on here, in about two days. Thats on an Asus Eee 701 too. So the NC10 should be fine.

I think the problem with touch typing on the Acer One (I don't touch type BTW) is it's balance. When fully open it doesn't take much to tip it backwards. This is more of a problem when it's on your lap.
I don't know if other netbooks are similarily afflicted.

Maybe ask dvdbunny - he's written a book don't you know! There are a million different netbooks - dell, asus, samsung, acer etc - none of them are that different so just pick your favourite.
