What with all the initial concern about not exceeding 1.4v in case of nuclear explosion, just interested really, as i'm not sure if i've seen a single 2500k or 2600k being reported as faulty.

I think there were a few people on a number of forums who nuked there's back in early 2011, haven't heard of any recently though although no doubt it still happens just people don't feel the need to start a thread on it.

I followed the overclocking threads on here from the release of Sandybridge & numerous people fried their CPU resulting in some revised voiltage guidelines being issued. I stuck with 775 for some time but since upgrading to 1155 I'm still unsure what the max safe voltage is & have stayed below 1.35v. Some people who've posted on the 5gz thread have run at 1.5v +

@bainbridge Max safe is supposedly 1.4v, although I'd never want to go that high.

Edit: also I remember that most of the problems were because people were putting the same kind of volts through them that they'd use on 45nm cpus, so expect a lot of ivy bridges to be nuked in the first week or so after release.

From OcUK:

- Do not exceed 1.425v core voltage, doing so could limit lifespan of the CPU
- Aim to keep temperatures below 70c underload if at all possible
- Do not overclock with BCLK, again doing so could limit lifespan of the CPU
- Recommended memory voltage is 1.50v, so make sure to run your memory at 1.50v, higher than 1.60v could limit lifespan of the CPU
- These recommendations come from OcUK and Intel, your warranty is un-affected but we highly recommend you adhere to the above to make sure your CPU lifespan is un-affected
- All Sandybridge CPU's worldwide should be run at the above or lower voltages, no higher!

I like the part where he sets LLC to max in addition to 1.6 volts.

I remember when people used to be careful with LLC even with low voltages due to voltage spikes it could cause.

Nowadays it seems that inexperienced overclockers set it as a standard option in BIOS.
