Well guys, ive got 2 Q6600's at the moment and the second which is a mates but going to buy looked promising compared to my old Q6600 which was a 1.325... anyway upon core temp run after a sit in a tester board it read 1.2125 I haven't seen one below 1.3 yet so stabbed it in my pc to see how it ran with my Silverarrow.

I do recall a questioning my old Q6600 (however today when I removed my old it was a perfect seat, nice even spread) as my temps on 2 cores were different to the other 2 I believe 3 - 4 degrees im not sure really anyway this is showing a clear 4-5 on both and I cant help but think its a bad mount anyone out there got similar reading from a Q6600?

I run one fan on my silverarrow through my fan controller and the other on the board, could this be it I wonder? uhm.

I don't think it's uncommon for this to happen with Core 2 quads as they are not native quadcores, but rather a multi chip module design (MCM) where 2 separate dual core dies are bonded to the package. This can result in one set of 2 cores showing different temperatures, depending on a variety of factors.

I do have the setting applied from my old Q6600 overclock which I under-vaulted from what I remember but I cant remember what to but I imagine it is higher than the default for this chip.

Thanks for the reply guys much appreciated I may try a reseat but its so annoying since im using a Fractal Design R3 and space is limited for my silver arrow, I might give it a try with a xigmatek I have lying around.

perfectly normal, i have 2 Q6600's here, and i have as much as 10.C difference on idle and 5-7.C on load

I lapped my Q6600 as its often either an issue with a concave IHS (which the core2 duo range were known for) or even the bonding of the two separate dual core parts to the underneath of the IHS.

Lapping improved mine a bit and dropped my temps a fair bit, but 2 of the four cores still always ran hotter.
