q6600

4gb ram
32bit vista
physx card

3DMark Score 10697 3DMarks
SM2.0 Score 4485
HDR/SM3.0 Score 4591
CPU Score 3234

is my score right or is my processor under performing?

i was thinking about overclocking but to be honest i havn't got a clue were to start on a cpu :p, also its a dell 720 and i don't know how the motherboard will take it. there motherboards are supposed to be crap even with the nvidia 680i chipset

Mine scores just over 13K but:

a) My GTX is clocked at 620/ 2100
b) My CPU (Q6600 (G0) is clocked at 3.6GHz
C) My RAM is 1066 OCZ SLi which will make a difference to CPU as
everything goes back and forth to the CPU via the RAM
d) Make sure you're drivers are up to date and that SPEEDSTEP IS DISABLED
IN BIOS

Also, 3DMark 06 Updates here:

:)

btw would it be a wise financial choice to upgrade my 667mhz ddr2 ram? the owners manual says that i can only support 800 and 667mhz ddr2 unbuffered sdram sli memory

thanks for the link

lol is it normal for the 3dmark06 score to fluctuate from 10697 to 11201

new results

11201 3DMarks
4678
4845

carbon footprint!!!!

:p

but seriously...i've always left it on and it's never affected my overclock.

Yeah I meant I don't see the point in people disabling speedstep, if they are just surfing the web or listening to music then they don't really need their CPU running at full speed, it will clock up to full speed if they do something more demanding anyway.

Because people are obsessed with their CPU's running at max speed even when the CPU isn't doing much, see no point to it really.

Because this is the "OVERCLOCKERSUK" Forums mate....Overclocking is what we do.

Thats like joining a car tuning forum and saying "I can't understand why people like fast cars!" Do people get out and tune their car up just before they want to go fast?

You sure you're on the right forum?:D

It does affect OC'ing past certain RAM straps at certain FSB speeds. It can cause massive instability.;) It can also trash the CPU. If the CPU's stock VCore is 1.2 and you've pushed 1.6V through it for a large overclock, when Speedstep kicks in it works by dropping the multi. Therefore if speedstep is enabled on you're 3.6GHz OC and drops the multi, then you'll have far more voltage through the CPU than at stock speed and the CPU may be speedstepped below stock speeds. ;)
