Hi all, please can anyone help?? ive oc`d my q6600 to 3.2ghz and on prime 95 it errors on one core after about two hours and when i changed a few voltage settings it switched between core 2 then 4 then 1 so dont think its a bum core just settings, anyway specs are below please advise where to start looking first ie ram volts or timings, vcore, nb etc.

specs are q6600, msi p45 platinum (zilent), 4gb ocz reaper 1066(5-5-5-18), corsair hx620 modular, 750gb sata, ati 4870,
temps reach 45-48 idle, 65-69 full load (prime), 60c ish cod4 for 2hrs

wanting to get 5 hours+ error free on prime to be sure of stability and below is my settings so far

Failure on a core using Prime95 usually means you need to pump more voltage through the chip. Up the voltage until it's stable, whilst keeping an eye on the load temps.

Also set your ram to 800Mhz to take it out of the equation.

prime I would be happy running @ 75c on that sort of vcore, as suggested you should take you RAM out of the equation and lower the frequency, if you are running 4*1gb then you may need to raise the NB voltage slightly.. you probably just need a slight increase to vcore to get stable as long as your below the above temp load full load

Hi and thanks again for replies, My cooler is a Zalman CNPS9500-AT that came bundled with my mobo, its at its lowest fan speed so will set a little higher n see if it lowers temps without too much noise, im running 2x2gb ocz reaper so am going to set ram to 800fsb and will just try vcore at 1.39+ n see!
Will update asap

Hi, i set ram to 800 and it worked perfect, i then changed voltage back down to 1.25v and now i get a stable 3.2ghz on full prime load of 67c, if i then up to 425x8 @ 3.4ghz 1.3v it seems to be game stable so far but full load prime temps are 74c, my next question is? is that temp about right for my cooler with as5 or should i look at water cooling, thx

The Q6600's do run hot, those temps look about right. I'm looking to go water myself to cool the beast down, and get a better clock.

you would do better if you ditched prime and used Intel Burn Test program. there is a thread on it here and so far v1.6 is latest out. its far better than prime is for overclock testing.

WOW!! that gets hot i ran intelburn test on a 5 time pass @ 3.6ghz 1.35v and temps hit 85-88c  , anyway it come back stable so am gonna downclock to 3.2ish until i get better cooling, thx again to all for help and info.
CHEERS :D
