Hey all

Basically I have been trying to get my q6600 stable at 3.4Ghz. It becomes IBT stable at 377x9@ with +0.1V to CPU and +0.1V going to DDR, however it crashed on an overnight prime95 at some point.

I tried +0.0125V but that crashed prime95 in about 30mins and +0.0150V crashed after almost an hour.

Does anyone have any idea on what I could do? My VID is 1.3V but my BIOS voltages dont reflect my VID at all so when I saw +0.150V I am at about 1.375V in BIOS. I think it could be my RAM because for 377x9 my RAM runs at 904Mhz. I dont want to put anymore voltage through my RAM really as I am already running at 2V from 1.9V.

I am thinking maybe it could be that I dont have enough voltage going through my NB but am unsure. My NB and FSB voltages at set to +0.025 as thats the nearest to +-0.000 I can go without being on auto.

Ideas?

If it helps my v-core is 1.425, i know it's a different mobo but volts should be fairly similar across the boards i would have thought??

CPU-Z says 1.35-1.39V under load with +0.150V in the BIOS. It does jump around a bit.

However, I have just come home and stopped prime95 after 7hours at 3.4Ghz with no errors. However, my RAM at the moment is running only 756Mhz not 800Mhz. It looks like the cause of my instablity was my RAM.

I will try for 3.5 and then 3.6Ghz over the next few days to get my RAM 1:1.

My temps under Prime95 had hit 78'c on cores but looked like it was bouncing around 73'c when I came home. Just running IBT now to get maximum temp from that. With these temps do you think that I am going too hot on my cores at full load? I hope I can hit 3.6Ghz without too much trouble.

I always go by the unwritten law---" over 75deg is too high"

Is it a standard cpu cooler you have?

Also, when prime fails do you get the message about critical error? If so it's your memory.

In the past i have ran prime for 3-6 hours no problems, then run it again and one core will fail within an hour.

So i would run it a few times, stress the memory just to make sure.

Is 800mhz the fastest your mem runs at, be nice to have a little to play with i.e. 1066mhz.

I turned into a gibering wreck when i first oc'd mine, was so nervous but afterwards felt relieved when all went well. Can be bloody frustrating.

well I just tried 3.52Ghz @ +0.200v, making 1.45v and it didnt like it at all. Temps were too high.

No I dont have stock cooling, I have the Megahalems with an Apache Black on it.

I max I seem to be able to get out of my RAM without errors is 850Mhzish, but that limits my OC to 3.2Ghz really. I am sat here at the moment running a stable 3.4Ghz but memory is only at 756Mhz so not really happy about that.

With more cooling (better case fans) I think I can hit 3.6Ghz so my memory runs 1:1 at 800Mhz.

Heh, this isnt my first overclock but first in a long time, I used to overclock 1800+ and 2500+ bartons all the time, was great!

there is someone on here who puts a table out about what temps the q6600 can get to, and i recall it's pretty high, but generally people say over 75 is harmful.

i wouldn't go higher though until the temps can be pulled down a bit,

Yea my CPU itself auto shuts down at 75'c, but it never did that on 3.4Ghz so I guess its safe. I have clocked back down to 3.2Ghz for now until I do more research into my cooling and RAM.

No the CPU will shut down at around 100°C as that's TJMax.

As long as your over 20°C away from TJMax your good :)
