Hi, my housemates just bought a p5k-E and i've helped him build it all up. We got the q6600 up to 2.9ghz with no problem, but anything more than that causes prime failures in just a few moments.

He's got a q6600, p5k-E, 4gb of ram, thermaltake kandalf LCS case and an 8800gtx OC2.

I don't really know my way around the motherboard, but i reckon dropping the ram down a notch and continuing with the processor and fsb is probably what needs doing. Its just pretty different to my DS3R so if someone could clue me up a bit on what i need to do i'd be most appreciateive, cheers.

what is the ram rated at and what is it running at..

lower the ram divider, increase ram voltage to whatever it is rated.

increase the voltage 0.05V to the Vcore

if you post the details, it should be easy to see whats gone wrong.. however im not sure on the P5k-E,

I don't think you can lower the ram divider? The slowest it can run is 1:1 sync (matched to the FSB).

If you have the ram set on an upwards divider then yes you could lower it back to normal.

Always a bad idea to try and overclock for the first time with the RAM still set on an upwards divider though!
