I'm looking at one of these CPUs to replace my 805D yet I've only got Corsair PC5400 RAM which runs at 675. I assume I'll have to change the RAM too to get it all working properly etc. PC8500 from what I can see?

Sorry been out of the hardware market for a long time and don't follow things like I used to.

Your ram will be fine, it will run at a 1:1 ratio @533MHz with the 1066FSB of the Q6600, if you are giong to be overclocking then you may need faster ram.

What speed RAM would I need to push a Q6600 to around 3.2 on air?

(or 3.0 if 3.2 is pushing my luck on air).

running 1:1 ratio you would need 667DDR2 for 3.0Ghz (PC-5400)
anything higher and you should look to 800MHz RAM (PC-6400)

I'll run at stock for the moment etc. Main reason I'll be looking at the chip is my 805D seems slow under Vista x64 and I do a lot of virtual server/PC stuff etc.

But that's good news ref the RAM and bad news ref the bank account :D

What sort of performance gain will I get over a 805D, staggering?
