:confused:So just got the above and trying to clock to 3ghz oncpu. Whe I turn up the FSB from anything above 288 it bluescreens as soon as windows Vista starts.

I have uped the voltage to1.35 but no improvement and get the same results.

I have changed the memory from 800mhs to 667mhz and now it will let me go over the 288 FSB.

If im reading this right does that mean y my RAM holding it back and me lovering the MHZ it running at will be the differnce?

Advice please guys

How new is your Q6600, mine was manufactured around August / September. And for anything above 3.2Ghz, mine needs around 1.58v and even then it isn't quite 100% stable.

I am not familiar with your board, nor do I condone using 1.58v as it is high and can cause a big temp rise.

Are you using an aftermarket cpu cooler?

The rig is new as part of a HTPC.

Got it last week so I think the CPU will be new and I am not able to crack off the heat sink.

I will not be looking to bet more then 3 - 3.2 ghz mhz

Main thing is my lack of experiance is overclocking and just what I have read on here. I have no idea appart from increasing the fsb and voltage for the cpu to cope byt I know the cpu limit.

Also can you tel me if the PCI frequancy increase will cause problems? default is 100 but up at 111???

Yes, increasing PCIE frequency can cause instability. It is always best to leave it at 100 or 101 mhz. You need to find out the VID of your CPU with a program called coretemp. This will indicate to you how much voltage is needed for your cpu to be stable at stock. Set your voltage to what the VID is set to, and increase your FSB little by little until you hit instability or start to fail prime95. You then will have to increase voltages slightly. Also, if you have 4 sticks of RAM, you might need to increase NB voltage a little. I don't know how much, maybe someone who has experience of this board will help you out better than I can. That's just as much help I can give you.

Is a setting available for the pci?

It goes up when I increase the FSB?

im going to go for the 3ghz.

will it be better with faster cpu and slower ram or will the slower ram not make more difference in encoding etc?
