Just wondering if the g0's 10 watts less power consumption is worth switching to. Presently my b3 is registering around 73c at 3.2ghz and 1.4 volts. 10 watts doesn't seem an enormous amount but it seems that the g0's are possible to clock to 3.6 on a good air cooler, currently my tuniq tower seems to be struggling somewhat with the b3.

Well it's really your choice. You should be able to get some money back for your current b3....but it will still cost you a little bit for a G0.

So it's really your decision whether another 200-400mhz is worth the extra money. BTW 73c is too hot for a B3 quad.

Depends who you ask i suppose, seen plenty of oc websites saying not to let them get over 80c, others say 70c max. Seems to be one of those things people have differing opinions on, to me if its not throttling then it shouldn't be much of an issue. :)

Well the thermal specification for the B3 stepping is 61.2c...while it's 71c for the g0 quads.

My quad has been quite hot when I maxed it out @ 3.8ghz but personally I wouldn't be comfortable with 70c on a regular basis (I fold 24/7)

I thought the tjunction was the max temperature allowed for the cpu, that being 100c according to coretemp?

Currently 2 cores at 73 and 2 @ 72, though thats just priming, doubt any game would push it that hard. :)

I always get confused on these things but I'm fairly sure that 100c is when the CPU shuts down (or throttles? ) and 61.2c is the recommended max operating temp by Intel

Not sure myself, then again intel reccomend a certain temperature and then bundle a crappy cooler with it that barely\can't manage to keep it at that max temp without screaming like a banshee.

Suppose as long as no throttling occurs it should be fine for the time being, might invest in some watercooling or get a yorkfield based cpu sooner or later.
