Hi guys

Basically I just wanted to know if it would be worth the upgrade if I can get hold of the Q9450 for a good price.

I have the B3 Q6600 and therefore I am unable to get it past 3GHz.

I know the power usage would be less with the Q9450.

The main thing I wanted to know is what's the likely hood the Q9450 will clock past 3GHz. What's the max multiplier?

Thanks

i think reading the above link that it has a 8x multi

yes it will easily do over 3ghz

there is one 3 floors above me doing 3.2ghz with good temps and very little voltage increase on the standard hsf.

Cob your just beating me to everything tonight! haha

Heat is the main issue - if you can keep that under control, > 3Ghz should be possible

Another reason i'm thinking of upgrading is to get a more efficient CPU. One that is made using the 45nm process.

But I will only upgrade if I can get one for a decent price.

Cob had his B3 at just over 3.6GHz (if I remember correctly), his cooling was water....I'm sure he can give more details on it...but generally, the Q6600 (G0) clocked much better; with a decent mobo, ram and cooling, a Q9450 should be good for 3.6-3.8GHz.
