Q6600 botleneck with a 570gtx??

defo a bottleneck at 2.4 get a good 3.2 on it and you'kk notice a big improvment as i had 4870x2 with a q6600 and noticed a 40% jump in fps going from 2.4 to 3.2 so it should show great advances with your 570

Yes you really need to have that CPU at 3GHz - 3.2Ghz with such a card. Very easy to overclock the Q6600 to 3GHz on any board chipset and on the P35 you should be able to get it to 3.2GHz without breaking a sweat, check some step by step guides on youtube for 3GHz and 3.2GHz overclocks ignore all the silly people doing 3.6 -3.8Ghz overclocks on their cpu for now some are insane doing that to their Q6600 on air and high vcores.

You should test it for now on air to 3.0 GHz to 3.2GHz and maybe if you feel comfortable try 3.4GHz.

Depends on how much voltage you need to put through your NB. Shouldn't need much of a boost to get to 3.4GHz. I think I nudged NB up one, maybe two steps to get 3.6GHz (using 3.53GHz for 24/7 use).

On my board, though, the PWMs do get very toasty indeed! Even with an Antec Spotcool pointing at them and set to ramp up to full speed under load, they have peaked at 80C in IBT!

It's not a problem temperature, but definitely the upper limit of what I would like, and it's the only reason I stopped trying to push the clocks on my Q6600 any further.

If you're not having to bump NB volts too much, you'll likely be okay on a board with decent cooling. Have you checked your temps? Only way to find out is clock up in small, careful increments and test (although I think you can whack it straight up to 3GHz without any worries, and then use small increments after that).

BTW guys, just tested my PC with my friends Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 Yorkfield 3.0GHz 12MB, and there was no noticeable difference in performance.... Tested on Futuremark vantage(--worse (I hate vantage), UNIGINE(+-same), and metro 2033(+same).

Conclusion:
I don't think I have a bottleneck anywhere... I think the reason is the total speed you gain from the collective(full i7 system with >=1600DDR3*6 RAM etc.) that gives the noticeable performance and CPU and GPU upgrades on an older system(775 - DDR2) is not enough on their own to perform just a few frames shy of the full i7 system. :(

Lets just say I always thought the VGA card made ALL...,most of the difference(in games).

The inevitable truth? haha

Great thread. :)
And as I was wondering if worth to replace the Q6600 @3.6, now I'm replacing the 5850 with 570 (or 580) and 3D monitor+ 3d vision kit :D

This is all good info.
I run a q6600 @ 3.2 on a p35 too. I was wondering about replacing the CPU and mobo but I guess when gaming at 5760x1080 the gfx card is going to be the bottleneck way before the CPU.
