Hi,

Im not a pro oc'er by any means so need some help please :)

I have the cpu (Q6600 quad 2.4 GO) at 3.0 (333 fsb, vcore at 1.32). Tried upping to 355 to get me at 3.2 but as soon as i start any stress test i get bsod within 2mins. tried upping vcore eventually getting to 1.39, didnt think i would need any higher for 3.2? Temperatures are fine it hit 61 for the couple mins it was running the test. dram was at 852ish. Left everything else on auto. Just cant get it stable at this speed and from what i have read this cpu is normally good for upto 3.6, so thought 3.2 on air cooled would be ok?

Any help appreciated :)

Spec:

Mobo - P5kC
PSU - 500W (Anrec Earthwatts)
Q6600 GO (2.4 Quad)
Nvidia 8800GT
4GB XMS2 6400

When you're overclocking your FSB, what speeds is your ram hitting? Try and keep RAM at its default speed or a bit lower, just to see what max OC you can get with the CPU

ram was upped from 800 to 852. I'll try it at the lower setting, think it was around 780

edit - tried

fsb 350x9
dram freq. ddr2-700mhz
100mhz on pcie
1.3875vcore

still crashing after 5 minsof stress testing / temp didnt exceed 64

Try FSB 400x8 and CPU vcore 1.40v, Keep Ram at 800

no joy im afraid

I have got it stable at 3.1 (fsb 345 x9), might just stay at this for a bit, not sure why but as soon as i goto 350x9 its unstable even at 1.4 vcore. Temperatures seem fine etc.. might be as suggested something to do with the ram

Back when I had a Q6600, to get it stable I had to raise the 'CPU VTT' voltage - may be called something different in your BIOS however.

1. Tools & Preparation
- Pencil for the mod (Soft Pencil Is Preferred But #2 Works)
- Picture To Locate where to Place Mod
- Light (If you Cannot See)

2. Step's For Mod
- **Turn Off PC!!!!** I cannot Stress This enough as people have tried this while the pc is running!!
- Remove Side panel & Locate the Capacitor
- Once Located Draw a Line Across The Top *ONLY*!
- 3-5 Pass(s) should Do The Trick To Fix Droop. (More Or Less Strokes May Be Needed)
- Replace Panel & Boot Pc.
- Check Cpu-z for Voltage If It Is Still Under Repeat Steps.
- Run A Stress Program And Check Voltage While Under Load You Do Not Want Voltage Going Past What You Have Manually Set In BIOS.
- If To Much Graphite Is Applied Wipe off with finger and try again.

3. Tips & Recommendation
- Like Stated Before You Do Not Want Voltage Going Above What Is Set In BIOS.
- Office Depot, Office Max, Arts & Craft's These are great stores to find a soft pencil.
- Be careful to not Press too hard on Compacitor (people Have Broken Them)
- Too Much Graphite Or Broken Off pieces can short the board!

airick13 and others have brought it to our attention that the Ballistix ram are not running very well with the ASUS boards, so consider this if you are having issues with your Ballistix, or are thinking of buying them.

Note the following ram are giving these boards problems for many members on OCN:
1. Crucial Ballistix 2x2Gb
2. 2x2Gb Dominator 1066
3. 2x1Gb Ballistix Double sided (some, not all are reporting booting issues with these)

Have you tried upping the NB voltage? You may also need to up the ram voltage a tiny bit if you are using 4 sticks.
As gjc mentioned try the x8 multi at 400 FSB, sometimes the board doesnt like a certain fsb range or multi.
