Bout to order a Q6600....and want a new cooler. I never liked my Scythe Ninja reb B with my E6600 TBH and want something better if possible. So I was thinking the Noctua NH-U12F as being the best. Can anyone vouch for this combination or tell me the BEST air cooler to OC the Q6600. Also...Im using a Gbyte P35-DS3...does the Noctua fit this Ok?

Going to order in 1 hour...so quick advice very appreciated:D

AFAIK the three best coolers in order are:

Thermalright 120 Ultra Extreme (needs a good fan)
Tuniq Tower 120
Noctua NH-U12F

Heh I wish I could borrow one and see if it would fit in my X-QPak I think the height would be ok and because the heatsink is quite thin in one dimension it might just fit. Prolly have the mod the HDD cage to get it to fit, like this guy.

Well for my lian li v1000-plus the heatsink actually overlaps the motherboard and rpeses against the bottom of the case, so i can't install it in the perferred orientation with the fan blowing through to the exhaust, i have to have it with the fan blowing through to the bottom of the case.

not my pc but same case etc, probably have to try and file it down a little to get it fitted properly.

Thanks....

Just went all out and ordered the Q6600.....with a Titan Amanda TEC cooler...

Hope its a bit better than the standard ones!

Order all three, give each one 2 days in the case and send back all but the best under distance selling regs ;)

Distance Selling Regulations are NOT there for you to do a Try before you buy.
Have you actually done this before?
I doubt very much they would accept the other two HSF units back as you'd need to break seals, packages etc before you use them.

No, hence the wink. I have return items that were unsuitable, when the unsuitability wasn't obvious from the description.

The distance selling regs exist to allow you to see if something is suitable for the job it was designed for, as there is only so much you can gather from reviews/online info from the retailer.

For instance in this case I think if you were under the impression that the HSF would fit in your case, and it didn't, then you'd be entitled to return it. You'd have to spend money to return it, and you wouldn't get the postage (to or from) back, but at least you wouldn't be stuck with the item.

Retailers also no doubt enjoy more confident shoppers, given they have the safety net of the distance selling regs.

After reading some dodgy comments on this forum about the Titan TEC....I changed my order to the Noctua NH-U12F as the 120 extreme was out of stock....hope it does the job!

match it up to two yate loon 120mm fans for very quite but good cooling ;) They can be had for £4~ each. YATE LOON 120mm - D12SL-12
