Hi, I've have the chance to purchase a Q6600 ES cpu for £370 inc delivery. Do you think its worth it, do Engineering samples always clock better than the retail ones?

Going from what I've read, engineering samples seem to always clock higher than retail chips. It's not a given though.

Thats not always the case.

Problem with ES chips is moving them on.

They will be removed if you auction them off.

You have to have watercooling or phase for quad core clocking in my experience if you wish to reach the 3.6ghz area.

Person whos selling it has had 4.2ghz @ 1.6 volts using cascade, at the end of the day I think I would would be best off going for a retail Q6600 at least you get 3 guarantee & big deal. . . . . ! If I only get a clock of say 3.2ghz instead of 3.6ghz +

Besides when I really need that much speed new cpu's will probally be out capable of just that i.e penryn or whatever else intel/amd have up their sleeves.

:)

H'mm just been offered a Q6400 ES for £270, might try haggling him down to £230ish then buy - would be worth it in my opinion.
