OK, now I have read lots on the Q6600 pros and cons and decided to wait at least until the G0 became available - which they now have :D

I have a nice week 29B E6600 atm, and happily have it running @ 3.2GHz 24/7 on default volts and even with Speedstep et al switched on - really nice clocker in that sense, in that it is capable when needed but scales back a treat too :)

So - to the question ! The only time I really see me system pushed is with HD video encoding. I have a Panasonic SD1 camcorder which records to AVCHD and although playback is always fine, editing and encoding/transcoding can really put a toll on things.......so, simple enough question - do you guys think that a Q6600 will improve my lot ?

A lot depends on what software you are using to do your encoding.

if it's multithreaded i.e. can use more than one core then the answer to your question is yes, you will notice a big diff. if it's not multithreaded you won't

Ah-hah....good point.....well, Nero 7 was my program of choice (as for some time it was the only thing that managed to deal with AVCHD in any sensible fashion :() but I now Have Pinnacle Studio 11 Ultimate......would like to think that this is multi-threaded......any ideas ? Easy way to tell

Kinda convinced now guys.....now just need to think of whether to change my mobo too...I hear the P35 boards are the dish of choice for Quads ??

So, to make some sense of the thread so far.....the advice is that HD video encoding will show an improvement in all likelihood......?

Any thoughts on my current mobo (see sig) - tempted for a P35 chipset as they apparently like Quads......thinking maybe the Asus Blitz....... :D

Hhhmm, not really an ABit guy.......but will read up on this board...other options/experiences ?

Just not had much joy with ABit boards over the years, and always doen well with ASUS.....like a comfy pair of slippers (not !) ;)

Methinks the Blitz is looking like my board of choice atm....save a last minute change of heart.....c card getting close to leaving wallet now....

I can only get 2.79ghz on my E6600 with 1.47V through it.

:( That has to be one of the most stubborn E6600's out there, surely ?! Unlucky........I take it you are happy it is not the mobo restricting the OC ?

Well I now have a G0 Q6600 en route and will plug it into my P5WDH in the first instance.....(little bit of testing and no need to reinstall Vista  yet).....

Also have a ASUS Blitz Formula in the same shipment, ready for when the P5WDH disappoints ;)
