Q6600 Hard to overclock

Today i put in my shiny new Q6600, ip35-Pro and 2gb of corsair.

Im having difficulty getting anything extra out of the cpu, it's got the stock cooler on but wont even budge past 2.6ghz.

It froze windows xp when i upped the bus speed to 290

HELP!

what settings you running on the ram, voltage/timings?

cpu voltage is unchanged, still at entry level.

What temperatures are you getting?

Well, using Everest Ultimate Edition the CPU temp is ranging madly between 40c and 120c, the 4 cores are holding at 49c.

Should i trust everest? As its showing different temperatures than the abit ultilities are

Your memory voltage seems a little low, have you tried upping that a bit?

I'd try giving the Quad 1.38V, just to see if it'll run with better with a bit of voltage in it.
