Hi guys,

Looking to order a new heatsink for my q6600 G0 stepping as it needs a bit of boost so i'm looking to overclock it to about 3GHZ from 2.4GHZ. Wondering what the best coolers for the buck is at the moment?

So I need a socket LGA775

System specs,

Asus P5K
Q6600 G0
Corsair xms2 1066mhz ram
5850 toxic gfx

Many thanks

tom

Used to have my Q6600 under a Freezer 7, at 3.6GHz it would hit the 80's under stress but when gaming etc it never got much past the high 60's.

Its pretty hot in my room and I dont want to be unstable at all, it looks like a £15 cooler is going to be enough for me to get my 3Ghz maybe 3.2 if I get greedy.

Would you guys advise buying the Thermalright True Spirit 140 over a cheaper cooler or should I save the money?

thanks

I would favour a 140mm fan cpu cooler over a 120 in the same price range, much quieter, lower pitched noise on bigger fans usually too.

Sweet, good luck. I'm interested to know what those fans are like, they are a good price so I might change my D-14 fans for 3 of those in line. :P

Right, Ive installed the heatsink and improved my case cabling.

My idle temps dropped from 46 to 28.

Im trying to overclock to 3.0ghz as my first target.
- 9x333 @ v1.325 , currently prime95 has been running for 1hour and max temp is 50C

I am hoping to get it up to 3.2 for my next target but im having some problems with vdrop. Under load the CPU voltage is dropping from V1.300(in windows) to v1.200. Is it going to be worth the increased temps to get to 3.2ghz? Considering I will have to raise the voltage quite high to compensate for the vdrop.

thanks
