Q6600 Highish Idle Temps

I have tried reseating my Titan Fenrir a couple of times with MX4 with no change in temps. At 3.4GHZ with 1.32v actual I idle at 38-42c with room temp of 23c.

Under full load the temps are 52-61c after over an hour.

Can you think of any reason why my idle temps seems relatively high? I read about people with similar load temps but idle temps in the low 30c range.

And is the large (9c) range in load temperatures bad?

Thanks

Temps look good :)

People with low temps might have watercooling also depends on what program they use to check temps, I would doubt you get temps much lower.

Yup, fine with an ambient of 23c. Load temps are very good as well. The difference between cores is perfectly normal, iirc mine had a difference of 6c between highest lowest, even after lapping it. It's actually very rare to see a screenshot of any quad with perfectly even temps.

Is your Q6600 a G0 version one?
if so I would say idle temps are bit high for that room temp and over clock.
Have you tightened the screws properly?

My second PC with the fenrir make me envious of the temps(compared to the water cooled PC in the sig)
It is always lower than my main PC!

Those temps are from OCCT using OCCT Linpack to load the CPU. Idle temps are with my rear fan running at 5v and load temps 12v.

The CPU is G0 fortunately.

With regards to the screws I tightened them to the point where I could no longer tighten them by hand without putting a lot of effort into it, I didn't feel comfortable going any tighter.

I can't say I am a fan of the Titan Fenrir, from reviews it obviously has the potential to perform but I really dislike the thermal paste application. Lots of different ideas on how to apply, for this application I went for a rice/pea intermediate size and let the cooler do the spreading. I have tried a few methods and all have given me similar temps.

EDIT, Perhaps my motherboard is conservative with fan speeds. I decided to shoot for 3.6ghz on a whim and currently stressing at 1.4v for 400*9. Temp hovers around 63c, jumps to 67-69c (hottest core) before I hear a brief whoosh from the fan and it drops back to 63c.

Idle temps are virtually the same as mine, with exactly the same OC settings :) (in RealTemp my 4 cores vary from 33 - 38 degrees and the CPU has been lapped :o)

Load temps again are basically the same as mine and well within the allowed limits of temperature for the CPU :). My CPU is under a Tuniq Tower btw

Afaik, Linpak is virtually the same as Intel burn test.
As said above, i wouldn't worry about idle temps, its load temps which are important.
And i must say, those temps are VERY good, for a Q6600 @ 3.6ghz.
Does OCCT give you a gflops score? as i cant remember.

Would you mind running Intel Burn Test, and see what gflop score you get?,
as the higher the gflops, the more stress the cpu is under, therfore more heat.
A Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz should be getting around 40-45glops,
