Q6600 Idles at 40c

Mine is on stock cooler and stock speed. Currently installing game and browsing web CPU is at 34C. It idles around 30C, CPU is actualy cooler than the motherboard.

Which program are you using to read the temps?

CoreTemp is about the most accurate. I wouldn't worry too much about your idle temp, have a look at your load temp. As long as the core stays below 70 you're fine.

40c aint that shabby, temps are too subjective though My Q6600 Go with my thermalright 120 extreme was @ 35c idle, but 40c is hardly anything to worry about just enjoy it :)

mine idles at 39c and is clocked to 3.2ghz. On air cooling using lapped Ultima 90i with scythe 120mm fan. CPU lapped as well.

Mine idles at 50c and under load goes to 70c under 100% load and all seems fine for me. I'm sure mine is a little high but I didn't know people got less on a stock cooler. I'll check out heatsink and stuff when I'm required to insert my hard drive again.

Mine idles at 54 (G0) on a Tuniq Tower at lowest setting

OC'd to 3.4Ghz at 1.4v

That seems high to me, but, I'm sick of trying to sit the cooler any better and reapplying thermal paste

I to have a Q6600

One thing you can check is what volts your motherboard is giving your cpu. My mobo sets it at 1.35volts at default. Which can make it warmer than it need be. I just got my computer to boot with the volts lowered to 1.07 volts. This lowered my temp a good 6 or 7C.
